Gold River Farm – Alan Pearse and Marc Winterbottom

Gold River FarmGold River farm is one of Irelands largest Organic vegetable farms. Its run by Alan Pearse and Marc Winterbottom and their team.  Marc and Alan have taken a modern approach to agriculture and have built a farm that is very efficient and professional – it produces wonderful veg all year round. They currently have over 100 acres of certified organic farmland. Nestled in the Wicklow hills in the town of Aughrim they are about 40 minutes from The Happy Pear and about an hour from Dublin. They grow a great variety of quality vegetables from Potatoes, purple sprouting broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, tiger tomatoes, amazing mixed leaves, leeks, kohl rabi, swede turnip, parsnips, as well as fancy baby veg for some of the top restaurants in Dublin.
Marc and Alan do an amazing job – cheers lads!

Marc Michel – Organic life

Marc Michel is based in Kilpeadder just outside of Greystones. He is one of Irelands first organic vegetable farmers starting back in the 80s. Marc is a passionate man about what he does and does a great job. A few years ago Marc had a beautiful café, restaurant and shop on his farm – set in a big glass house with olive trees. It was a real treat to go to but subsequently they had to close it down due to planning restrictions. Marc supplies us with lettuce, asian style mixed leaves, cucumbers, celery, elegant scallions, tomatoes, potatoes and lots more.
Thanks Marc!

Wicklow Farmhouse Cheese – John Heppentstal

Wicklow Farmhouse Cheese is a family owned business established by the Hempenstall family in 2005. The family farm lies at Curranstown Arklow, Co. Wicklow about 25 minutes from The Happy Pear.

John and his family have been farming here for generations. John milks approximately 60 cows and has developed a distinctive range of cheeses using only his own pasteurised milk from his herd of Friesian cows. The cheeses are handmade, in a purpose built dairy on the farm. They have won gold, silver and bronze awards at, among others, the British Cheese Awards and have been recommended by John and Sally McKenna. At The Happy Pear we sell their Wicklow Blue (a soft creamed blue veined cheese), their Wicklow Baun (a soft magic brie) and a selection of their cheddars (basil and garlic, seaweed, tomato, nettle and chive), we also use their nettle and chive cheddar and plain cheddar in the kitchen.
Thanks John and Edward!
